I've been to the LVBP about 3 times in 2 years and just sampled the Harvest Ale on tap last weekend for the first time. I'm also currently finishing off a Growler of it that I brought home.

Appearance: Ruby brown body with a nice 2 finger foamy head that is slightly off white in color. The glass is picking up a sheen of lacing.

Smell: As the previous reviewer suggested, the sugary malt really stands out along with a dry hopped note. A bit earthy and fairly enjoyable.

Taste: Earthy hops up front followed by a wave of sweet malt and a dry hop finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium thin body and a tad lacking in carbonation. This category could use some improvement for sure.

Drinkability: Seems low in ABV and the body is on the light side so quite drinkable.

One of the better offerings I've had at LVBP. Recommended.

BTW They currently charge $20 for a growler (bottle included) and I believe refills are $12 (might be $14) once you own the bottle and bring it back. Not bad considering they charge $4.50 from the tap.

Long Valley - Harvest Ale

This is their current (11/18/06) seasonal and its listed as,

"Although we know how much you all like to read our extensive "Style Histories", this beer has no history. This is just something our brewmasters concocted because we thought it would be a nice change of pace and also satisfy the long suffering "hop heads" that frequent the BrewPub.
"
So it doesn't have an actual beer style but I thought it best reseambled an American Pale Wheat Ale

Appearance- Hzy Ceder brown with a foamy sticky head. Nice lacing on the glass.
Smell- Earthy dirty hops, sugary malt, and grains (wheat, sunflour, sesame)
Taste- Big woodsy dirty hops with strong malt.
Mouthfeel- Dry hops and malt dominate but smalls hints of grain poke through and compliment the beer.

Overall- A tasty beer to finish off my day, unfortunately they were out of the Porter (the big medal winner) The best of the afternoon. I'll definitely be back and I'll be drinking this!!
