DATE: September 13, 2019... OCCASION: settling ion after watching Lenape Valley beat up crosstown rivals H'town... GLASSWARE: Victory HopDevil nonick...an iced tea-brown body blocks out any vision of life within; its head is lively, off-white and consistent, ringing to a nice resilience... first whiff is decidedly brown, with coffee and chestnut pushing past the expected roasted malts and toffee...vegetable and citrus fruit are faint but present... the 4.2% ABV goes down well and smoothly, with some buzz at the teeth but a medium-bodied, slightly chewable, subtly carbonated, and refreshing, with a tea-like consistency... the chestnut and toasted malts make this a great fall drink, while its lemon citric spritz makes the ale a bit more nuanced than a brown usually is... a fitting pairing with the season, earthy, sweet, and nutty, with a sense of pale ale to give it some nuance... is it worth the $12.80 I was charged? Decidedly not, but the LV Brew Pub has always been a bit steep in its pricing...
