Named after the local legend of the Hookerman who is said to have died after losing his arm in a long-ago rail accident. It is said that the Hookerman can be seen late at night wandering the abandoned tracks with a lantern looking for his lost arm. The lightest of our house beers, the Hookerman's Light Ale is an American wheat ale, having a delicate flavor and body, with a refreshing fruity aroma. We use malted wheat in the grist in addition to imported, 2-row pale malt. The wheat contributes a very delicate, bready flavor. We add imported Tettnang hops late in the kettle bois for a clean, floral finish.

Served on tap at Long Valley restaurant and brewery in NJ.

Pours very light. See through, gold colored, touches of foam. Faint wheaty smell, modest. Taste is a very light, but a clean crisp mild hop snap, that lends enough flavor to keep you interested. Appropriately carbonated, goes down easy. Good beer for sitting on the summer porch at LV.

A pretty good looking light beer: clear, yellow, fluffy white head. Excellent retention and lacing. Unfortunately that’s the best part of this brew. The smell is grainy, moderately sweet and malty, with some grassy, almost skunky hops, and not much else.

The flavor follows the nose but has even less to distinguish itself. Lightly sweet, again a graininess is present; some skunkiness, a bit bitter but not in a very nice way. Corn-adjunct note. Kind of sharp and bland at the same time, pretty unappealing.

Light bodied with medium-high carbonation. Drinks clean and crisp but with an oddly off aftertaste that lingers and doesn’t make me want another. Not the worst light beer you’ll come across but that’s damning with faint praise.

Named for the 'hooker man,' a take on familiar horror stories. Served as part of a tasting flight.

Very pale straw color, no particular head. Scent is of a light grain--adjuncty, like corn flakes-- with some citrus.

Tastes very light, with corn and light malts over citrus and biscuit. No wheat detected in the nose, flavor, or texture.

Mild carbonation and light bodied, watery and thin. Okay for a light beer, better than a BMC, but not 'good.' This can't be a wheat. I think it's been changed a bit!

Served in a shaker pint. Pale golden yellow, a bit hazy with bubbly head. Laced a little. Nice floral aroma. Nice taste with a citrus finish. Went down nice and easy and I thought it was much better than I had thought it would be. Like that it is named after a local ghost.

Long Valley- Hookerman's Light Ale

Appearance- Light yellow almost clear with a slight frothy white head and no lacing.
Smell- Light lemony hay and wheat/ yeast.
Taste- Slight yeasty muskiness. Lemony straw/ wheat. Light and crisp.
Mouthfeel- Smooth and crisp. Nice mild flavor. A good Wheat Ale to drink on a hot day.

Creamy white head on top of a crystal clear yellow body. It was hard to pick up elements of the aroma from the glass since it was a 5oz sampler glass, but it seemed a bit floral from the hopping and a bit bready. Very pleasant tasting and, like the name would indicate, fairly light in body. It had a slightly nutty cereal flavor and a tiny bit of sourness at the very end. Reasonable floral hop flavor but with low bitterness. Thankfully this beer was not created with Bud Light drinkers in mind, but they too will probably like this. An inoffensive brew, but in a good way like a good crusty dinner roll is sure to please all. This is one “Light” beer I’ll be sure to drink again.
