On-tap at Long Valley Pub & Brewery, Long Valley, NJ

A: The beer is clear dark amber in color and has no visible carbonation. It poured with a thin tan head that died down, leaving some lacing on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of nutty malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste is rather nutty but doesn't have any associated sweetness and almost seems a little grainy. There are faint hints of bitterness.
M: It feels just about medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is pretty good for an English Brown Ale as it delivers a lot of nutty malt flavors without having much in the way of sweetness or bitterness.

Black River Brown pours a reddish tinted amber color, bubbly off-white head. Scent brings carmale malt sweetness with some toasted grain and light fruiytness. Taste follows suit, caramel and earthy hops star, light toasted grain. Lighter side of medium, slightly watery. The least brown, brown ale ive tried, comes across as a light amber ale, if anything.

Light brown and clear beer. Toasty malt flavor with appropriately subdues hop presence. There was some sourness and astringency that I found rather enjoyable. Also, the caramel flavor that was lacking in their amber found its way into this brown. I admit that I am not a big brown ale fan, but I tried to be as unbiased as possible and judged this beer strictly by the style rather than incorporating personal preference since I would sooner leave it than take it.
