Brewed with our fellow Earthlings at Riverland Brewing, this is a Barleywine that was aged for 2 years in hand-selected Bourbon Barrels

Aged for two years in Angel's Envy bourbon barrels, this barleywine explodes with notes of toffee, but the spirit and oak from the barrel help balance the sweetness to avoid an overly cloying stickiness.

Picked up a 16.9 oz bottle at the Riverlands brewery (this is a collab, apparently) back in March and finally cracked it open last night. Into my Forager snifter, pours an ink-black with a hint of mahogany at the edges when held up to the light. Nose is pungent but not all that layered: some wood (barrel?), molasses, slightly sour marshmallow. Taste follows the nose…fairly sweet (without any sour) and big and deep flavors, with no heat whatsoever. Mouthful: low carb, wet and smooth, sits in the tongue. The abv makes this a monster, and it definitely packs some big and deep flavor, though it is a little sweet for my tastes, and it strikes me as fairly one-note, for the style. Still, very glad to have the chance to enjoy it.
