DATE: May 19, 2017... OCCASION: Game Two Cavs/Celts with the fam... GLASSWARE: Hobgoblin stange... this seems to be a second incarnation of the Augie's Alt, as the ABV has increased to 5.6%... pours a thick, creamy off-white head that creates sun splashes arcing around the glass... the body is medium-dark amber with sparse, thin bubbles... fresh pour from a 32 oz. growler that flourishes handsomely... thick caramel malts, chestnut, flowery hops, and some sugary esters as well--an alluring, if somewhat woody/oak aroma... a medium-bodied, lively, drinkable body akin to a well-hopped brown ale... oak, caramel, red velvet, candied sugars, and malts make for an engaging alt... a surprisingly good third choice (iPA, Maibock) from Krogh's; this I would seek out again...

A: A solid looking coppery amber brew with perfect clarity that produced a 1.5 finger off-white head that reduces to a creamy slither. Mid-grade lacing.
S: Pronounced West Coast hops at the forefront, mostly citrusy. Nutty and brown bread malts hold the hops at bay.
T: The aroma belies the taste -- buttery with a flavorful nutty profile, reminds me of Danish butter cookies with light almonds. Slight bitterness dials in at the end.
M: Decent almost medium body with a fantastic slickness.
D: Some of the Krogh's seasonal's serious outshine some of their everyday line-up. If they didn't already have a number of utility beers to fit the bill, I'd say this deserves a spot on the batting order -- in fact, I'd trade the Alpine Glow for this one. A fantastic beer for Krogh's and a great stab at the style. I'll be refilling my growler again befor this one goes out of season.
