16 ounce can, date stamp is smudged so I can't tell what it says. Thanks to Brutaltruth for this! Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about a half inch tan head that didn't stay around for too long. Small amount of lacing. The brew smells like roasted malt, cacao nibs, vanilla and some plum. For the most part the taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also some licorice and caramel flavors noticeable too. No one flavor overpowers the others. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's a bit syrupy and slick with a low/moderate amount of carbonation. I thought this was a good overall brew, worth a try if you get the chance!

Smooth pastry stout, very sweet finish. A huge brown lasting head and lace. Vanilla up front, chocolate in the back story along with a bit of licorice. Very good.

Gorgeous pour and color, as usual. Deep black, good head. Lovely.
Delicious nose, vanilla comes through strong.
A little thin on the taste and feel. Not bad, just expected something a little thicker.
Excellent beer overall.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque black in the glass with a one finger brown head with great retention and nice lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, fudge, vanilla and a touch of caramel. Flavor follows, with dark toasted malt, fudgy chocolate, vanilla, some nuts and molasses; some light caramel in the finish. Medium bodied with silky moderate creaminess, great mouth feel. I've enjoyed all these Chasing stouts from Timber and I'm loving this one too. Excellent pastry chocolate and vanilla flavors with a little caramel fleeting in the finish. Rich and flavorful, looks great. Nicely done.

Pours inky black, pitch black, with a dark brown frothy head with med retention, bit of lacing, decent legs
Nose is sweet, fudgey chocolate and sweet cocoa, marshmallow and nougat, raw sweet vanilla, baking spices, strange earthy bark character
Taste is sweet and very rich, like melted dark chocolate, cocoa fudge, a little nougat and chocolate marshmallow, think fudge, raw earthy sweet vanilla, baking spices, little cinnamon even, inky roasty malts as well, little bitterness, sticky sweet finish, flash of smooth alcohol
Mouth is super thick rich chewy fudgey, led lighter carb, just a touch of warming alcohol
Overall actually better than I thought, alcohol hidden well, sweet but not overly and balanced, plenty of pastry stout flavors without being fake or gimmicky, nice job

Served in a tulip
Uber thick, oily, completely pitch black appearance. The body was topped by a tight, frothy, near-finger tall, mocha colored crown that fell to a thick, lasting collar. A spotty, blanket of lacing cascaded down the glass.
The aroma was fantastic. Really rich and intense. Malty and fairly sweet. Nice melding of roasted and caramel malt notes. Huge vanilla presence. Fresh vanilla bean came to mind. Loads of brown sugar too. Dark chocolate was also noticeable. Chocolate chips perhaps. The chocolate became punchier as the beer warmed.
The flavor profile was impressive as well. Super malt forward. Nice blend of caramel and roasted malt notes up front. Brown sugar appeared in the center. Some chocolate fudge too. Bit of creamy lactose. The beer turned more roasty on the back end. Notes of bitter char came through in the finish. The finish was also a touch metallic initially. After some time, the bitterness mellowed and the metallic notes disappeared. The chocolate presence also intensified.
Super dense, creamy, full bodied mouthfeel. Oily and slick on the palate. The beer contained a super fine, moderate effervescence that tuned fluffy and smooth. By the drink’s end, the liquid left a slightly sticky film on my lips.
Chasing Shadows is an outstanding pastry stout with potent vanilla and cocoa notes and an alcohol presence that was remarkably well hidden. All the Timber Ales stouts I have tried thus far have been amazing, and this beer is no exception.

-Jet can pour hosts a thin tan cap of fine foam. This dissipates quickly.
The aroma is rich with cocoa and brandy notes. The flavor is full. Dark chocolate, licorice and espresso are prominent.
The mouthfeel is slick and thick. It took me an hour to finish this. -very good

Pours a viscous and thick motor oil looking color. It appears jet black in the glass, initially no head. However, a thin ring of lacing develops, as does a partial layer of film.
The nose opens sweetly, including notes of chocolate fudge brownie, vanilla, raisins, plum and cherries. Roasty aromas evoke espresso beans, nutty and dark toasted malts and cocoa.
Sweet and chewy malts evoke notes of chocolate fudge, dark caramel, brown sugar and vanilla, along with a sweet alcohol spice. Bright notes of cherry and dark fruit, including raisin and plum. Some roasted malt flavors develop, nutty malts, and woodsy hops that provide merely a hint of bitterness. The finish is creamy and smooth.
Full bodied and mouth coating. The mouthfeel is very smooth and creamy. The carbonation is moderate to gentle.
A tasty and complex imperial stout. I would have liked a touch more roasty bitterness, however, overall it was a pleasant sipper that wasn’t too boozy.
