Blended with Lumber is our Barrel-blended Imperial Stout series. Blend #2 features 1/3 Imperial Stout aged for over two years in 12yr Weller, 12yr Elijah Craig and Willett Rye barrels blended with 2/3 fresh Imperial Stout. The finished product was then conditioned on toasted coconut.

12 ounce can, lightly chilled, poured into a hotel room plastic cup, in Fort Myers, FL. It is thickly dead flat, a fugly ring of brown clinging for life on the perimeter.
Nose is dark caramel, lil bit of coconut.
Taste is dark chocolate, fudge, molasses, not much barrel, rich, smooth, sticky sa-weet!, coconut is an afterthought, but is present.
Mouth is way full, gurgly low carbonation.
Overall, pastry as heck, quite delicious. But mixing 2/3 fresh Imperial Stout decimated years of barreling.

Pours a jet black with a finger of mocha head that dissipates to nothing with no lacing. Aroma of molasses, caramel, and a hint of whiskey. Taste follows nose with a nice bit of booziness.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque in the glass with a one finger dark khaki head that dissipates to a thick cap patches with nice lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, dark chocolate, molasses, earthy wood, toasted coconut and whiskey. Flavor is dark toasted malt, dark chocolate, dry caramel, toasted coconut, bourbon and woody oak. Medium bodied with moderate creaminess, nice mouth feel. The aroma led me to think this might be a too-busy dessert stout, but the flavor is actually nicely integrated; both the bourbon and coconut are well balance with the rich chocolate malt body.Mid taste there was a wisp of caramel. Somewhat sweet, but not up to cloying dessert stout levels. This has a half year on it, and that may contribute to the mellower blend of flavors. I liked this quite a bit; one of the better big coconut stouts I've tasted. I enjoyed this so much that I was glad it came in a 12 oz can, which is fine for the big ABV (which was well covered).

Partially sculpted of the old and the aged, and then partially carved from the new, Timber Ales lumbers over their barrel aged stout.

Jet black and pouring with the consistency of milkshake, Blended with Lumber #2 eventually floats a dainty but stubborn mocha froth and a decadently sweet scent of chocolate, caramel, coffee and vanilla with the common spice of bourbon. As the sweet elixir coats the early palate, flavors of molasses, honey and toffee join the caramel and chocolate.

As the stout creeps onto the middle palate, the mouth coating effects of brownie batter come to mind. Lavishly sweet and dessert-like, the underpinnings of roasted grain and rye whisky stand no chance in balancing the sweetness. Coffee and Kahlua round out the late palate with the warmth of caramelized oak, umami savoriness and light smoky char hanging closely behind.

Plush, pastry-like and cloying in finish, the stout finishes decidedly malty-rich and with a heavy coat of doughy sweetness, the beer is intended satisfy the sweet tooth as a firm replacement for dessert.

WOW, pours black as ink. Head was a darker shade of tan. The force head was very effervescent. Nose is sort of weak. Taste was chocolate, and slight sweet creamy coffee. Very smooth drinking beer especially given the high ABV. Not as much bourbon as I expected or wanted.

12oz can. Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a small, off-white head of foam. It left sudsy trails of lace on the glass. It smelled of oak, vanilla, bourbon, roasted malt, toffee and coconut. Sweet chocolate, toffee and toasted coconut taste with bourbon, oak and vanilla.
