definitely not a dark wheat beer, this may be wheat based sure, but its pale as they come. its done with a crazy mix of added flavors, to me could be called a fruit beer, a pale wheat, maybe even a fruited kettle sour as there is some lactic character to this i think, could just be a natural tartness from passion fruit and lime that are in here, but it does have some tang. there is also coconut, nutmeg, and mango, pretty wild combination. no color from the fruit at all, looks like a light blonde beer with just a little haze to it, short white head, clean and simple looking. the nose is tropical and tart, with the zesty lime element and the passion fruit standing out the most, some coconut too seems natural, very little of the nutmeg, but thats just fine, definitely a little bacterial pucker, a tannic thing from the wheat, neat, summery. the flavor is fruit forward, mango sweetness more prominent but still lime forward, the sultana hops are a neat touch, sort of herbal and green, a good choice for these tropical flavors. the coconut is pretty subtle, i get more from the nutmeg when it warms up a little, it was weird at first but by the end of the glass im pretty stoked on it. definitely not the kind of thing i have come to expect from these guys, but heres another wrinkle, another thing they do well. some simple cereal malt at the core of this, dry earthy wheat, crackery pils type malt too, minerals, clean lemon on the swallow, very light, good carbonation, sneaky strong for how drinkable this is, funky a little bit, a weird choice for this time of year, more of a summer vacation flavor profile, curious but good.
