Take your time with this luxury ale. It is large and takes a while to slow down. You might be unsinkable but if you are not careful you might find your self decommissioned. Roasted malts and cacao nibs bring a complexity which you might not remember if you have too many of these attempting to raise its mysteries from the depths.

Looks: Pours black with a nice tan 1.5 finger head. Tiny fingers on glass.

Smell: Huge coffee and chocolate character, a bit of oak and whiskey but overwhelmed by the first two.

Taste: Follows the nose almost exactly, but with the whiskey stepping up a bit more. Still chocolate and coffee dominant. Very smooth and doesn't linger.

Feel: Moderately thick, creamy mouthfeel, not oily at all. Perfect level of carbonation.

Overall: Delicious but not terribly complex, a crowd-pleasing imperial stout that will make you smile but won't blow your mind. 4s across the board.

Sampling a 16 oz can poured into my snifter at cellar temp. Lid is waxed orange/gold color. I gotta say, waxing a pop top can is a little frustrating on the consumer end. Stamp on can is batch 369.1, what ever that may mean.
The beer pours a dark coffee color with no light passing through my glass. A dense creamy beige head of 1 cm foams up on the pour and fades to an edge layer and one large island in the center of my glass.
Aroma is some dark chocolate and molassess and a big hit of sweeter bourbon. Not really any boozy or fusol notes and hops are absent on the nose.
First sip reveals a medium body, slightly lighter than I expected and carbonation that is very fine and tingly on my palate. Texture is smooth and this beer is a little dangerous on drinkability.
Flavor is chocolate, some molasses, brown sugar, and a big hit of bourbon. Almost shot-like in bourbon flavor and some accompanying black pepper boozy bite on the swallow, and a little warming on the finish. No hop character here either.
This beer is a little thinner on body and very bourbon forward, which is good for bourbon lovers, but it does overshadow the base beer a little. Its a good BBA stout, glad to have added another Canadian notch on my glass!

Appearance - Pours a jet black with two fingers of frothy mocha tan head that dissipates quite quickly.

Smell - earthy, leafy, and floral hops, cocoa, coffee bean, roasted malts, hint of dark fruits (plum, raisin), and earthy yeast.

Taste - mild earthy, leafy, and floral hops upfront. The cocoa, coffee bean, roasted malts, and hint of dark fruits (plum and raisin) follow suit but they are all mild which is quite unfortunate.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes sticky with all elements lingering.

Overall - A RIS that started off on the right foot but all the flavours got lost in translation making it a one note of brew. It's a shame because I had high hopes for this brew. Ah well, this seawise giant needs to go back to the drawing board and get a tune up.
