Aged on bourbon soaked toasted French oak, this warming English-style barley wine exudes rich, notes of caramel and toffee with hints of dried fruit and vanilla. Toasted oak with whiskey highlights are upfront, finishing with a smooth caramel sweetness.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a nice transparent reddish brown with a solid inch of head. The nose is salted toffee, prunes, raisins, and some boozy notes. Some spice comes through as well.
The taste toffee, stone fruit, oak spice, a touch of leather, and a hint of cinnamon. The bittering hops are noticeable. Mostly a pine note. Not really getting much in the way of bourbon. My sense is that they added bourbon-soaked oak chips and didn't actually put this in a barrel. Not sure though. Although they describe this as an English barleywine, I feel like it's more of a crossover between the American and English styles. More hoppy that a traditional English BW but also maltier than an American style. Very enjoyable overall.

The oak is prominent, lending an almost herbal, or anise, or tea like note to the sweet caramel, sugary figs, and whiskey exhale. I'm enjoying this overall but that oak is just a bit incongruous to me. Thanks Tim for the unique offering! Looking forward to your review of this one.
