Big screen printed green 750ml bottled acquired by my father...thanks dad! Pours from the bottle into my tulip glass a deep auburn with a small light tan head. Nice clarity when held up to the light. Aroma starts with a myriad of fruits alongside brown sugar, raisins and sweet caramel. Hops are lurking in there with a bit of a piney/herbal kick, enjoyable.
First sip brings a sweet candied fruit maltiness upfront along with some brown sugar and a raisiny undertone. A bit biscuity on the way down with a nice piney hop that works its way in. Slight alcohol is apparent but doesn't detract from the overall brew. A tasty, fruity barleywine that follows its own path.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a smooth creaminess and mellow carbonation. Goes down quite easily for a barleywine with only a smidge of alcohol in the flavor. A tasty and well fitting celebratory brew. Check this one out if you travel to Fox River Brewing, it's well worth picking up and a change of pace from the highly hopped barleywines I've had of late. I'll have to get up there and check out the brewpub for myself sometime soon!
