In oshkosh for business and was excited to sample as many local brews as possible

A - Nice looking beer deep caramel beer dark but translucent. Very little head a almost no lacing.

S - fantastic smell which got me very excited for a sip. Rich aroma, sweet malts and dark fruits

T - Bland and indistinguishable. It didn't taste bad but it really didn't taste like anything. I would hope for a nice alcohol kick from a Scottish ale but it was really present at all. Very little hop character.

M - Some what on the watery side. Virtually no carbonation. I wouldn't expect too much carbonation from this style but this was downright flat.

D - it was an easy drinking beer. The taste was not off putting and went down easy, the problem with that is I was looking for a nice strong sipper to go with my dinner. Over all average at best and for the category somewhat of a let down

This beer was poured while eating at the Fox River Brewery. The brew had a dark amber color, slightly transparent, with a 1/2 white head with minimal lacing. There is a nice bitter hop smell with hints of caramel and dark malts. There is a medium body with almost no carbonation. This brew could use some more carbonation to open up the flavors that are hidden. There is a slight burnt sugar flavor to this beer. It is ok, but have had better.

Appearance - Deep amber brown with a thick frothy pale brown head. Translucent but not transparent. Good looking brew.

Smell - Mild hoppy scent with a hint of malt. I look forward to a sip.

Taste - Not much going on here. Disappointing in flavor. Weak and subtle hops and old tasting malt in my humble opinion.

Mouthfeel - Perfect temperature but the texture is a bit thick for and ale of any sort. The feel of this brew doesn't help the flavor out at all.

~ I will never have this beer again. I will also not recommend it to any of my friends.

Sampled at the brewpub, this is rumored to be a 2001 GABF medal winner. The pour was of a deep amber, very little head topped off a very lightly carbonated beer. The nose was sweet and malty, but not big enough for style, nice malt intro to flavor which carried through the beer. Definately on the lighter side of the spectrum. Finish is sweet, short but sweet.

This beer poured a deep amber with a readish hue. The head sat low and white and was real creamy. The nose was very malty. The taste was mostly grainy without a real big alcohol bite. There were caramel notes and a little nuttiness. The mouthfeel was to light for my liking in a scottish ale. It was a good beer but I felt like they just played it safe with this one and didn't try to give this beer it's own personality. A decent beer overall.

Rust colored, clear and dark, topped with a thin pale khaki lace.
Malt-driven nose full of toffee-slathered almonds, chocolate covered cherries, hazelnut liquor, and java.
Begins with a graininess provided via dark breads, with toasted sesame seed and rye bread spice. Grows sweeter thereafter, globbed with caramal nougat and toffee, as it ekes out notions of black cherries, peat bogs, and figs. The earthiness grows, but is offset with a continuing sweetness, now provided by hazelnut syrup. The hopping is minor, but not a mere afterthought, as a cleansing dried leaf and rosewater bitterness slakes the rear.
Initially, this sat a bit uppity with a rapid-fire, micro-fine carbonation. It evens as it rest, and becomes a firm and stately brew of just slightly plumper than medium.

Dark maple color with nice fluffy white head that hung around for a little while. Smells of chocolate, nut and brown sugar. It is a very smooth beer but lacks the kick that I was hoping for. There is a nice coffee taste to the tongue but a very flat beer. It would be a nice one to sip for an afternoon, but not my first pick.

Great heavy looking russett color...nice sweet malt nose...heavy malt load is evident...awesome sweet, sticky taste...not much peat taste but I prefer this style without that...low carbonation works well with the sweet malt load..amazingly it never seems too sweet...this is an awesome scotch ale...very malty but not overdone...I love this beer...

Clear scarlet burgandy hue. Creamy two-tone beige head is about medium in height and well retained. Aroma is very pleasant. Yeasty, musty, bready and malty. If an aroma could be delicious, this is it. Taste is carmelized sugar, molasses, malt, yeast......damn tasty. This is a great Scottish Ale. Mouthfeel is damn near full. Very Enjoyable. Even on a hot July afternoon.
