An escape from the mundane to the pleasures of paradise, West Coast Brewing is taking the tastebuds on vacation even if the rest of us can't go.
Built like a pina colada but made into beer, Escape leads the eye with a soft golden-straw glow and a frothy, short lived cap. Above it all swirls a scent of tropical fruit, light cream and the tart scent of cider and citrus. As a mild malt creaminess greets the palate, the early flavors of cereal, simple syrup and a hint of cream provides a foundation of grain. Added fruitiness of pineapple and coconut adds to the succulent tang while the undercurrent of tartness bring flavors of lime, lemon, green apple, white grape and gooseberry. Tepidly tart, the sour ale cautiously mimics the beachy cocktail.
Medium bodied and semi-dry, the ale needs to decide if its going to embrace the cocktail further or be a more acidic and drier sour ale. Right now it's just on the fence and leaves drinkers wanting a more decisive taste.

Straw yellow, cloudy colored. Thick, frothy white head that faded quickly. Nose is sweet and hints at pineapple and coconut. Taste was slightly sour, but also has the coconut and pineapple flavors. Little bitterness on palate.
