my first from these guys, a cherry cola sour, guest tap at forest road brewing, really neat beer, unexpectedly authentic, drinkable, and well done, these soda beers always sounds like gimmicks to me, but this one really hits. it clear and pink in the pint glass, always weird to me to see sour beer in this format, but thats not uncommon in the uk i guess. average pink head on it, bubbles like a soda too. it smells like sweet cherry, clean lacto souring with a definite citrus component, but i am amazed how much the cola part comes through too, it has that actual cola nut thing, a hint of cocoa, maybe cinnamon and clove, a lot like cherry cola actually, and the beer seems well refined, somewhat delicate even, at least not forced. the flavor is great, just like the soda but thankfully not as sweet. not real grainy or beery really, but its not desserty either, the cherry seems real, the cola part seems derived from herbs and spices not from syrup or extract, and there is a degree of authenticity to this i never expected to find in it, immediately a plus one to its credit. very light body without much grain, appropriately high carbonation, and not too sour to actually want to drink the whole pint. nicely flavored and spiced, good proportions, better than a novelty beer. impressive first offering from these guys for me really, wish i got to try more from them when i was over there, this was a big surprise. yum.
