Beer Bastards

Pours a cloudy, deep amber coloration with a medium, fluffy, lasting head. Smells of doughy, caramel malt and citrus, resinous hops, with notes of grapefruit and pine. Taste is an excellent balance of doughy, caramelly malt and fruity, bitter, resinous, slightly herbal hops, with citrus and lighter tropical notes of grapefruit, orange and pineapple, as well as some pine coming through as well. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some grapefruit and pine lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

This makes for a really nice, classical West Coast IPA with a moderate caramel malt backbone and strong notes of citrus zest and resinous pine. while finishing with a good bitterness. While it could still be a bit more bitter and resinous for my personal taste, it's nevertheless quite an enjoyable example of the style with a good balance of malt and hops, as well as fruity and bitter nuances.
