Our traditional English style barleywine was given a three hour boil producing a complex array of toffee, caramel and subtle fruity undertones. Dangerously smooth at 10%.

From a 500 ml bottle acquired on Jan 9, 2021.
Not a bad looking amber brown pour with little to no head
Aroma of sweet barley malts, floral hops, and little else. Not what I hoped for
Medium or better mouthfeel
Sweet malts for sure in the taste with a mild floral hop ending. It was decent but I prefer Barleywines with more oomph!

Bottle from the Packie.
Dark brown in color with faint garnet at the edges with a thin bubbly off white head that recedes quickly. Toffee caramel and dark pitted fruits with a bit of earthy hop and light warming alcohol to counter. Pretty nice sipper.

Scored meself a fresh 0.5l bottle from the Lazy Dog in Londonderry today.... $11.50... time to give her a whirl....
This one is a clear but deeply dark, dense garnet-ruby color. Has scant carbo, and a thin, beige, rim-clinging ring of fine foam. Lacing is on the light side. Aroma is of dark fruit and some caramel and toffee, though mild overall. Body is a bit more than medium, and it feels very smooth going down.
Taste has some dates and raisin, with a bit of caramelized brown sugar. A bit more dark fruit appears, such as currants and figs. Has some earthy hop action, though it's not overly complex or malty enough for me, in the big picture. Still tasty, though.... Prosit!!
