Sampling from a 0.5l bottle picked up a couple of weeks ago, for $10.00.... This is the second different barrel-aged variant from the original...
Pours a striking, clear ruby-garnet color. Has a steady pipeline of carbo rising within towards the thin, fine beige layer of foam on top. There's very light lacing, but the color is stunning. Aroma has rich toffee and caramel malts, dark fruit, and a nice whiff of whiskey. It is very smooth going down, with a medium to medium-plus body.
The taste is solidly English, with more caramel and toffee, along with some subtle choco notes. Also present are some dark fruit, like raisins, dates and currants. Then some light whiskey action comes to the fore, along with some earthy hopping in the finish. Very tasty, warming and satisfying! Cheers!!
