12oz can from Payette. Dark amber with a small fine beige head. Aroma is sweet and coconut. Taste brings light coconut and some metallic notes , similar to one of their other offerings. Seemed promising before heading downhill.

this is a real curious operation that all of a sudden popped up at some grocery stores around boise. the beer is being made by payette in boise, i think they are planning a taproom and maybe brewpub in arizona, but their corporate address is in texas. this could be one of those idea breweries that doesnt actually exist, a montucky or something, not totally sure, and a few of the cans they have out there have two time in the name, quite confusing branding really, but i was stoked on something new and on a coconut ipa as a style, so i picked this up for the weekend. i was shocked when it poured a brown color. i dont mean amber or copper or malty looking, i mean downright dark, brown ale style, i was immediately disappointed as it was a hot springy day that demanded a refreshing drinker, and this sure didnt look like it. it is heady and lively and frothy though, just not what i want a light summery ipa to look like at all. i like the nose here though, some fleshy slightly toasted natural coconut, just a bit of tropical sweetness, and enough beer character for it to not be one dimensional. the hops are kind of piney and a little more intense than anticipated, even for an ipa, i like that. the flavor is surprisingly light, balanced, and drinkable. the coconut is rather natural in here, the hops are bitter and pungent and are the last thing i taste, and its less objectively malty than the color makes it seem like would be possible. i like the coconut and hops together, the light toasted and brown sugar flavor but without residual sweetness, and the clean fermentation fits. its well carbonated, way lighter than it looks, and pretty crushable, although maybe less of a warm weather beer than i was hoping for. i suspect they lighten this up quite a bit before they go full scale with it, but maybe im wrong. it certainly is unique, and probably overall a little better than i was expecting, different as it is. still bitter and hoppy at the end. curious what becomes of these guys...
