It starts off as a powerwalk, but as the 19:52 tram to Zest Coast approaches, you break into a sprint. People glare from the window as you leap on, red faced and panting. You fumble in your pocket for the right card. Touch on. Take no shame in wanting to arrive on time; that's right stare into the other passengers’ eyes. You find a seat at the back. You've made it. Last stop, Flavour Town.

This Grapefruit IPA provides nostalgic vibes, bursting with tangy citrus notes and a crisp bitterness to finish, that leaves you wanting just one more sip…

Purchased at Chas Cole Cellarbrations in February 2024 and drunk two weeks later.

L: Jurassic Park amber, almost dark apricot, with a big, fluffy, off-white head. Vast amounts of carbonation roil the top of the glass, swirling the hefty sediment load in a Guinness-like dance up and down the glass, lifting the chunks with the CO2 before gravity plunges them downwards again. It's mesmerising to watch but loses marks due to the heavy sediment.

S: In the nose, there's big caramel malt notes, zesty, dank grapefruit juice and pith, and a hint of alcohol. It smells big!

T: As foretold by the nose, a strong and sweet malt backbone supports zesty grapefruit and citrus notes. It's far sweeter and with less citric bitterness than I expected (remember, it smelled big!), and as a result, I doubt a second large-format can would follow the first.

M: Surprisingly soft and full. Carbonation and carbonic prickle are dialled right back, especially given the carry-on at the pour. I suspect a little more bite would have counteracted the sweet malt slightly better.

O: This is an ok beer. It's a little sweet, not as big and bitter as I expected from the nose, style, and ABV. It loses marks for the extreme sediment load, which even my wife commented on unprompted. It's a limited-edition beer, so I don't know if it will appear again, and if it does, I wouldn't be rushing to grab it.

Cheers!
