Purchased at Chas Cole Cellarbrations in February 2024 and drunk in October.
L: The beer is a thick, lustrous black in the glass, with a thin yet substantial cappuccino-froth-coloured head. No carbonation can be seen in the glass.
S: The nose is boozy vanilla and marzipan with a thick, rich toffee undertone. It smells very inviting!
T: While cold, it had a strong, frosted marzipan and vanilla note, with a tangy, rich toffee body - almost precisely as per the nose. The booze was there, and while there's warming in the throat and stomach, I would never have guessed the beer was a whopping 12.7% alcohol. Chocolate and barrel notes came to the fore as the beer warmed and the booze note dialled back. This is a delicious sipper. The size of the can and strength of the beer meant that while there was no other way to drink it, the slow journey through the glass was rewarded with the beer getting better as it breathed and brought its full suite of flavour to the fore.
M: It's silky and thick, like a boozy chocolate milkshake. Carbonation is non-existent, and the alcohol provides the kick as the beer is swallowed.
O: This is a fantastic beer. I'm like a broken record as I work through my back catalogue of Deeds beers, but it is a tragedy that these guys succumbed to market forces in early 2024.
