I purchased this one at Ocean Grove Cellars in January 2024 and drank it in August of that year.
L: Jet black with ruby highlights and a thin, fluffy, mocha-coloured head.
S: While still cold, there's rich toffee, wood and bourbon from the barrel, and a savoury umami note. As it warms, it develops a vanilla, chocolate and strawberry liqueur note that hints at the deliciousness to come.
T: I keep reminding myself that this is a 14.5% ABV monster beer because it drinks like half that, with only a comfortable warmth in the stomach and gullet giving any hint of the prodigious alcohol hidden in this beer. There's rich toffee, as per the nose, and a whisky-like note layered with bitter, dark chocolate. The chocolate mellows as the beer warms, and the rich toffee note comes more to the fore, gaining a raspberry note, which means the ber ends sweet and tangy. The sweetness continues to ramp up as the beer warms and heads towards the cloying range at times, and that last slight flaw drops this beer's rating slightly.
M: This is a sipper, and the mouthfeel is accordingly full and smooth. Carbonation is minimal. The finish, as noted above, is long and sweet. A beer this sweet has to have some added stickiness, and, as expected, my lips and moustache are sticking together before I'm a quarter of the way through the beer.
O: This is an excellent beer and a masterclass in hiding a massive alcohol load behind flavour, body and mouthfeel. I write this after all my reviews of my remaining Deeds beers, but it's a tragedy that they've been lost to the Australian brewing scene.
Vale Deeds!
Cheers!

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
