This offering poured jet black, with any light gobbled up into the darkness of this stout. It leaves thick tan head that sticks to the glass. The aroma is light chocolate notes, followed by some hop floural aroma and a strong toffee presence. The taste is smooth starts off on the palate with a bitter-sweet chocolate then moves to a nice rich syrup caramel aspect on the palate.

The body is slightly watery but the hops aspect in the beer kind of brings it back to life on the tongue and finshes buttery and sweet leaving a stickiness on the throat. I paired this beer with the carrot cake and the chocolate caramel crunch (mousse, caramel, and praline) the acidity in the beer really brought cut the sweetness in both the cream topping on the carrot cake and the mousse filling in the caramel crunch.

But the chocolate aspect in the caramel crunch really mirrored the flavors in the stout and the oatmeal grain taste in the beer brought out the good spice taste in the carrot cake fantastic.

I had this on-tap at the Brewhouse Cafe and Grill in Lowell. Poured a deep black color with a nice tan head. Smokey peat moss (scotch like) and coffee dominate the nose. It smells like Laphroaig; that is good. Really creamy, I taste an espresso with a pack of sugar and some oats (oatmeal stout, I get it now). Nice coffee aftertaste left me wanting more and it didn't have the heavy fill you up feel of most stouts. Really good, I need to have this again.

The beer poured from the tap a shade lighter than midnight black--just screaming chocoalte and coffee. The head was thick and a looked like frothy chocolate milk. The malts in the beer were rich and carried a coffee and hazelnut flavor as well. But while the visual representation was of chocolate, the beer had hints of vanilla bean instead. The feel of the beer was pleasantly heavy on the tongue and led the way to a nice, smooth finish. Definitely a brew worth tracking down.

Strapped on the feedbag with this one on 7/20/2004. 16-oz. pour at Bukowski’s, Boston location.

Creamy, jettrail initial head with caramel and cola tinges to it that thinned down to a swirling vortex. Hue was black and deep as hell. Great oatmeal and roasted chestnut nose with some port-like traces thrown in for Ss and Gs. Sweet, candy apple sugariness to taste; chocolate ingredients are perfect, with some imparting pine flavors. Medium bodied and incredibly smooth with no overdone alcohol.

Pours a dark brown, with a complete lack of light passing through, topped with a 2 finger dark tan head. Laces in webs.
Coffee and oat aroma.
Strong coffee taste, roasted malt, sweetened coffee, oats.
Full body, doubly silky smooth from the oats and the cask conditioning.

on cask at AOBF

A fluffy tan head rises over oily black, black, black. There's some oatmeal in the scent. Again, there's an impression of oil in the medium body. The flavor is predominately smoky and rich, like last year's fire in a pine forest after a good soak-down by a thunderstorm.
