West Coast meets Hallertau (hop growing region in Germany)! Westküst finds its way as a West Coast American IPA by enlisting a full array of German-sourced hops and malts.
The first of our “Bavarican” beer series, Westküst achieves an American IPA flavor profile by enlisting a full array of German-sourced ingredients. The blend of German-grown hop varieties employed provides a unique but familiar flavor profile that includes citrus, resinous, grassy, and some fresh herbal notes; not unlike what would be found in a traditionally made American IPA.

16oz can. Poured out a clear, golden orange color with a small, off-white head of foam. It left sticky lacing. It smelled of caramel, bread crust and resin. Sweet caramel taste with fruity notes and a piney bitterness.

Appearance: Arrives clear and golden colored with a one finger head that retains nicely and leaves spots of lacing
Smelll: Grassy and piney with some citrus tones, as well
Taste: Clean malt flavors forward with grassy and piney flavors building; just a hint of citrus in the mix, as well
Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation
Overall: An interseting IPA that has a Germanic hop aspect

Crowler can. Fill date on label is '09.14.22'.
Clear, pale gold colored body. Huge, frothy, white colored head. Leaves behind partial rings of lacing.
Aroma of pine resin, melon, and citrus (pineapple and orange).
Taste has a good malt base, but the hops shine. Flavors of pine, which includes the requisite bitterness, and sweeter pineapple, grapefruit and orange. Dry and bitter in the aftertaste.
Medium plus mouth feel, which includes a bit of syrup. Medium carbonation.
The German hops bring forth additional grassy and herbal flavors that are not necessarily included in the archetype West Coast IPA, but the bitterness is there along with the citrus flavors.

Clear, bright golden hue, large, lace-leaving ivory head.
In the nose: large hop presence, big citrus notes.
In the mouth: Bitter from the start, with a juicy mouthfeel, ultimately ending dry and brittle. Orange, grapefruit, lemon, and a side of pine. Bitterness never quits the palate, laying in long for the finish. This has all the hops and all the bitterness that a West Coast IPA demands, but it's just a little fresher, brighter, and tastier. Medium bodied, easy drinking (for the hop-heads among us, like me), and an exemplary example of an IPA.
If you keep brewing this, Arbeiter, I'll keep drinking it.
