My wife and I stopped at Höhn during one of our excursions into the areas surrounding Bamberg because she'd heard that they do an exceptional job with one of the local fishes. I can't remember what it was but I think it might have been Perch. I'm not a big fish guy but I had a few bites and thought it was good. It paired well with their house-made beer, the Görchla. The dining area was nice, airy, open, very light (at least during the day), and loaded with wood (wood floor, wood tables, wood chairs, wood beams on the ceiling, the guest reception desk - all Beechwood or "blonde" wood!). The service was very attentive, and there was more than one person tending to us despite the fact that we'd only ordered one dish and a single beer. We obviously didn't stay at the hotel but I thought the town of Memmelsdorf was charming, and I'd certainly consider it for future trips.

Outside, Kitschy from the 60s modern, inside, natural wood goodness. Quick service, nice vibe. Stayed here years ago and the food was good. Family (7 generations) owned traditional style brewpub. Try it!

Visited here in early June 2011. The bus 907 from Bamberg stops almost outside the Gasthof, though if visiting Memmelsdorf, its worth getting off the bus at Schloss Seehof, to see the Palace, and then just a 15 minute walk into the village to the two brewpubs here!

Note that the 907 back to Bamberg does NOT stop opposite - you have to walk around the corner past the church and catch it outside the 'Rathouse'

Only one beer available at time of our visit, the Hohn unfiltered Keller beer 'Gorchla' which was OK, but wouldn't rate it as anything outstanding, similar in style to the Bamberg Ambrosinium Keller beer, pleasant enough but nothing special.

We had a small lunchtime snack here, and the food was good, pleasant atmosphere and attentive service made for a good experience, though Drei Kronen almost next door is better for the beer.

A year to the day later - 27SEP10, Caitlin and I stopped into Höhn. Nothing new to add save for having some food. A plate of 9 Nürnberger mit Kraut, and a plate of 2 Bierbratwürste mit Kraut and Kartoffeln more than filled our stomachs. The food was plentiful and verry tasty, the best Kraut I had on the trip. Prosit!!!

Visited on 27SEP09. I had finished my bier and meal at Drei Kronen, and had about 25 minutes before my bus back into Bamberg. Time enough for a visit to Höhn and a bier? Plenty of time!!

Höhn is in a large, three-story building. The first floor has light tan stonework, whereas the upper floors are painted a "yikes" off-reddish hue, with aqua-blue trim around the windows. Enter in off the street to a small foyer then a right turn into the Stube. It is a long, L-shaped, rectangular room, from front to back, with the short part on the front and the long section to the right heading back. The service bar is just to your left as you enter, and "ells" around to the left on the long axis heading to the rear. In the front of the room, and then moving back on the right side, are numerous tables and cushioned booths. All the woodwork here is a light and shiny, looking quite new. This includes said tables and booths, as well as the trim around the bar and the beams along the ceiling. Large windows in the front of the room, plus all along the right wall, produce a very bright and airy Stube. If you continue around the bar to the rear, you'll find a smaller function room, with wood a bit darker than the rest. A hallway in the rear left leads to the restrooms and, further along, outside to a small biergarten. The bar area has some nice steins and large growler-type containers on a shelf above the bar, plus a display with stuff for sale, like glasses, bier trucks and bier itself. Traditional German music filled the air, and the staff was quite helpful, filling me in with a description of their bier as well as taking care of my order quite quickly. All done with smiles as well; somewhat rare in Deutschland! ;-) Their year-round offering, Görchla, was described to me as a Naturtrüb Pils, though I found it a bit more like a Kellerbier. Regardless, it was superb. They do offer a seasonal or 2 now and then. Not great, selection-wise, but I'm an easy marker.

I was here not more than 20 minutes or so, but I feel it definitely deserves a return visit. Warm atmosphere, a welcoming staff, tasty Görchla... Hit up both Drei Kronen and Höhn for a great change of pace from the regular Bamberg offerings.

Zum Wohl!!
