Can pour at Pilot Project, canned 4/18/24
I guess Brewer’s Kitchen is the brewery of choice for me at Pilot Project today. I think this will be my last one but it sounds like a fun way to end things, you don’t see tea beers that often. Let’s crack it open and see what it has to offer
Pours a cloudy brownish orange with 2 fingers of creamy off white head that fades to a thin ring and leaves decent lacing. It looks a bit oxidized so I’m a little concerned
The nose is so strange that I can’t even tell if it’s oxidized or just a very weird approach to an IPA, but I’m kinda into it either way. I’m picking up on aromas of burnt orange, coriander, underripe honeydew, pithy grapefruit, brown sugar, black cherry, herbal hops, light black pepper, and lemon zest
Unfortunately it kinda falls off a cliff in taste. It’s just bland and the oxidation is now very clear. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting brown sugar, bready malt, toffee, burnt caramel, orange zest, and earthy hops. The swallow brings notes of black tea, orange zest, burnt caramel, black pepper, raisin, herbal hops, and light cantaloupe
A medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a slick beer. Finishes sticky but still with an odd bitterness
This one wasn’t really my cup of tea, pun fully intended. In all seriousness it was oxidized and would likely be much better if that wasn’t the case
