On tap at Birdhouse Brewing in Honeoye, NY.

This one pours a fairly hazy golden yellow color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.

This smells like peach, melon, and grapefruit.

This is reasonably basic while being reasonably tasty. I want a bit more bite or bitterness, but it’s got a nice softness to it, and a decent drinkability, with a smooth and clean finish.

Birdhouse has a fantastic location, with decent beers. That’s good enough for me!

A fluffy white head reaches three inches before slowly settling to a half-inch pillow. Thick clouds of lace cling to a PBGC Pub Glass. The beer is a hazy yellow (SRM 4) with small, random and lazy carbonation within.

Pine resin dominates the aroma with a background of earthy black tea. Orange pith builds with moderate warmth as does floral honeysuckle.

Bitterness is restrained with sweetness following. Orange pith is strong over notes of cedar. The finish is long and earthy, carrying forward modest bitterness.

This beer is full bodied with a soft, oily texture. Carbonation is modest and the alcohol is as expected.

Hazy Bird is the first sample I have tried from Birdhouse Brewing Company. In my experience, getting an IPA this well done on opening weekend is a good sign of things to come. I enjoyed the crowler out on my deck during a mild, late Spring afternoon.
