The 2nd in our palindrome IPA series... This time around we've fermented our recipe with a "Kveik" yeast strain isolated from the hornindial region in Norway. Kveik yeasts are typically known for producing very fruity beers along with some funkier flavours that make them all their own.

Pours a hazy, dark orange coloration with a medium, foamy head. Smells of light doughy, biscuity malt and estery fruit, with ligher hoppy accents and notes of green apple, apricot, orange and papaya. Taste is a good balance of light doughy, biscuity malt, estery fruit, with a hint of spice, and grassy, bitter, fruity hops, with notes of green apple, apricot, orange and papaya, as well as some peppery accents coming through in the aftertaste. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some green apple, papaya and black pepper lingering in the aftertaste. Soft mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

While I'm not really a huge fan of Kveik IPAs, I actually thought this was all right at the end of the day. It's got a nice balance of estery and hoppy fruit notes going on, while not turning too tart, almost feeling more like an New England IPA with some estery fruit/spice sprinkled in, which is interesting but I'm not sure if it's really an improvement on the NEIPA style. Farmhouse yeast strains belong in Saison, not IPA, in my personal opinion. Nevertheless, this still makes for an enjoyable, a little different, IPA in the New England tradition, with a great mouthfeel as well.
