Born Into This – Sour Ale with Lime, Salt, and Coriander from Third Moon Brewing. Received 500 mL bottle in a Ninja strike from @Coroneaus. Stored at home at 40 degrees. Reviewed 4/10/21. Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Undated bottle. Served at 48.7 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. Final temperature 55.0 degrees.
Appearance – 3.75
First pour – Nearly colorless with a slight yellow tint (SRM 2), nearly clear.
Body – Straw (SRM 2), opaque. When rear-lite, translucent with marked effervescence
Head – Small (Maximum 2 cm, aggressive center pour), white, fizzy and no retention, leaving neither cap nor crown, just a constantly renewing ring of tiny bubbles. Second pour produces a 0.5 cm fizzy head.
Lacing – None.
Aroma – 4.25 – Strongly sour and salty, no malt, no hops, no yeast, no coriander.
Flavor – 4.25 – Begins sour and salty, no malt, no hops, no yeast. A bit of generic citrus fruit flavor which the label identifies as lime but seems more like key lime to me. Coriander makes a transitory appearance on the exhale. No ethanol (5.2% ABV, as marked on container) taste or aroma. No gastric warming. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl.
Palate – 4 – Thin, watery, aggressive carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.75 (After deducting 0.25 point for undated container) Refreshing sour, one I’ll seek the next time I’m in Canada.
