Got this from Emma and Terry this past summer. Thanks!
From a 473ml can into a pint glass
Stout with Caramel and Sea Salt
APPEARANCE: Clear black pour yields a big, foamy, light tan head with great retention. Black body with no carbonation evident. Head eventually fades to a thin, foamy cap. Part wisp remains until the end leaving no real lacing on the glass as it empties.
SMELL Roasted malts, light milk chocolate and vanilla cream, with some caramel and butterscotch aromas as well. Medium strength.
TASTE: Plenty of caramel and hints of sea salt up front. Good stuff. Some roasted malts, with milk chocolate and vanilla going into the swallow. Bolder finish of roasted and burnt malts, some dark chocolate, sweet caramel and salt flavors, as well as some coffee bitterness linger on the palate. Flavorful for sure.
PALATE: Medium body and slightly higher levels of carbonation. A little foamy on the palate, goes down fine and finishes a touch mouth-coating.
OVERALL: This might be my favorite of the three. The caramel and salt additions work very nicely and the base stout lends a solid foundation. The feel is still a little overly carbonated, unfortunately. A feel like the Egg Nog version would tick this one even further. Worth checking out if you’re a fan of the brewery, which I certainly am. Thanks again, guys!

473ml can served cold into a pint glass. Canned February 19, 2025. Durand purchase.
Appearance - Near black in color with a finger plus of short lived, fizzy very dark tan head. Small soapy tan collar remains behind.
Smell - Chocolate, roasty bits and definitely salted caramel.
Taste - Milk chocolate, some caramel then smoke rushes in, back and forth interplay with the caramel, there a chewiness to the flavor that hold up well. Medium bitterness with a heavy dose of roast. Not getting the sea salt though.
Mouthfeel - Low carbonation, smooth and fairly slick, chewy texture. Creaminess and richness to the body.
Overall - Certainly a good flavored stout with a nice interplay between caramel and smokey roasty flavors, but not necessarily something I want to drink more than of in a go. That being said, I'd imagine the rest of the Sumptuous lineup is pretty akin to this and the namesake.
