From the half liter bottle, it pours a reddish amber color with a modest off-white head that slowly diminishes and leaves lacing. The nose gets a bit of smoke and grass. The mouth follows with a slightly bitter bite as well as the smokey taste. Yum!

L:
-pours a clear amber with a medium to big, foamy, offwhite head
-medium carbonation visible
S:
-caramel,bacon,meaty smoke,wood,bready
T:
-Follows the nose plus spice,grass
-medium to high bitterniss for the style
F:
-medium to high carbonation
-light body
O:
Can't keep up with Schlenkerlas complexity and Spezial's drinkability.
It's the most hoppy Rauchbier i've had so far though.
Decent overall

Poured into a weizen glass. Pours a medium to dark bronze amber with fine one finger off-white head with great retention and lots of lacing. Aroma of charred wheat malt and savory smoke. Flavor of mild caramel malt, charred malt, smokehouse, faint graininess. Flavor thins out somewhat into a dry, smoky finish. Medium bodied with an unexpected light creaminess. A very pleasant rauchbier with a good smoked malt profile and a very pleasant, full mouth feel for a light ale. The smoke and flavor is a little subdued compared to some other smoked German beers I've tried, but this was tasty and satisfying. Glad I got a chance to try it. A gift from my sister from her trip to Germany. I'm getting this quite late and it may not have had proper storage for a while, but to its credit, it seems to have survived quite nicely.

Light copper colour with good clarity and a thick, bubbly white head on top.
Malty smelling with a bit of spice blended through the middle and rounded off nicely with a touch of cinnamon and hints of smoke.
Caramel and a nice malt base to this one along good bit of spice and a nice cinnamon kick that the nose suggested. There is also a background smokiness to the beer.
Smooth, light to medium, mild bitter finish.
A fairly average tasting beer that was drinkable and had a good mix of malts and smoke.

I stayed at the Kraus brewpub 22-26SEP11 but, unfortunately, their restaurant was closed at that time. I was able to buy a bottle of this at the reception, though. I quaffed the 0.5l (€2.00) serving in my room on 25SEP11.
This rauch was a clear shade of copper, with a rocky, off-white, quickly-thinning head which left some OK lace. Had an aroma of light smoke and toastiness. Medium-bodied, the prickle level was low, making for a decent passage over the tongue.
A little caramel was in the mix before the rauchiness came into play. It was medium-strength, like a Spezial Rauch, not a killer cup of bacon. Some florality played a part in the dryish finish. Decent and drinkable, but not top-shelf. Prosit!!

Half litre bottle. Medium tanned head which went quickly. Mahogany colour, slightly cloudy. Strong smoked meat smell. Taste reminded me of the smokey bacon crisps I used to eat. Not as smooth as Schlenkerla but goes down ok. The locals say smoked beers only taste after the third one.
