Part of the "Monk's TRAPPist House" Belgian beer series series Malty with notes of allspice, plum, caramel and brown bread It's light bodied for a big darker beer and has a dry clean finish making it deceptively easy drinking for the ABV.

Pours a clear dark brown color, looking appropriate for the style. The only disappointment being that a tiny wisp of a head quickly dissipates.
The nose is pretty nice however, as it is rife with notes of dark fruit and spices. Aromas of raisins, plums, red grape, a touch of dark chocolate and roasty notes, cinnamon, allspice, bubblegum and toasted amber malts.
Opens slightly sweet and cola like, however, the palate begins to dry up nicely. Notes of brown bread and caramel, plums, red grape, a hint of roast, banana, allspice, and a hint of pepper. Hops bitterness is gentle with slightly earthy and citrusy notes.
Medium to full bodied, drinks easily. The finish is smooth and semi dry. Mouthfeel is smooth overall, with a moderate carbonation.
Pretty good take on the style even if it doesn't quite exceed some of the Belgian classics. Still, it's good drinking and I love the can art featuring Thelonious Monk.
