This was the first beer that I had from Opportunity, as I've been attempting to buy as much as I can locally since the world was upended earlier this year. Never heard of these guys but I saw a few of their offerings at Gary's in Wayne and thought that I'd give this can a go and for an American IPA, this certainly had an Irish slant to it both in terms of look and taste.
Not to my surprise, this had quite an Irish pour to it as it was a lovely, nearly-clear brassy red with plenty of head that was soft and slow to settle, as there were plenty of suds to top this off. Lots of copper, caramel, and the like in the nose as this reminded me of an Irish Red Ale and was like that on the palate as well. Chewy, somewhat dry, and a bit roasted, this was not a typical American IPA by any stretch.
This was strong in the alcohol department but only because of how this felt and not for the actual style itself. For some reason, this felt like it was brewed by Toms River as it was quite leathery, warming, and nicely nutty in the aftertaste. Full in body with some cracker to it and dry in the aftertaste, I needed a chaser of water to fully get this down but otherwise, it was fine for a cool night such as this! Just wish it had a date on the bottom of the can!
