Brewed secretly for the 50th Birthday of Brewmaster Roland Kundmüller (one of the two Kundmüller Brothers). Dry hopped with Spalter Select hops. The name is a wordplay, using part of Roland's first name and adding the typical bock beer ending of -ator. A Rol(l)ator is a walker for seniors...hence the perfect name for a beer brewed for a 50 year old man...!

Pours a cloudy, pale golden amber coloration with a small, fluffy head and plenty of tiny particulates suspended in the beer. Smells of quite sweet doughy, biscuity malt and rather floral, grassy hops. Taste follows the nose, being rather dominated by sweet, doughy malt and quite floral, grassy hops, with just a hint of herbal and spicy accents also coming through. Finishes bittersweet, with a medium bitterness and some floral, grassy hops lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a medium/rich body and medium carbonation.
Being quite impressed with everything I've had from Kundmüller before, this came as a bit of a disappointment to me, to be honest. I guess they wanted tro experiment with a dry-hopped Doppelbock and it's just not working for me because it's overly dominated by the quite floral and grassy hops, while the malts add little but sweetness here, that is at least somewhat balanced by the rather distinct bitterness though. Certainly a very different, unique Doppelbock that is very hoppy for the style, but not in a good way, and feels somewhat one-dimensional as well.

From the bottle, it pours a hazy amber with a nice head that lasts a while and leaves a touch of lacing. In the nose, it is double block malty with some summer fruit scents. In the mouth, it is the same - smooth feeling, malty in flavor with a touch of caramel. Nice!
