Best by date about 18mo from now. Poured into an IPA glass.
Look: dark golden, slightly opaque, thick off-white head, skimpy legs.
Smell: proper for an imperial IPA—sticky sweetness and tropical fruit. Strong scent memory of canned mandarin oranges.
Taste: astringent alcohol heat at first, followed by nondescript pine, orange, hop oil bitterness. Seemed to get better as it warmed but stayed pretty messy.
Feel: appropriate for an imperial IPA—a bit on the still side, a little chewy, but eminently drinkable.
Overall: I love me some aggressively hoppy beers, and this one was decent, but the flavor was just a bit of a muddle for me. Probably a top-tier IIPA in Germany, but wouldn’t stand out from the pack stateside.
