Enjoyed a 6-8oz pour of this from a 1 Pint 6 Ounce bottle @ the Lupulin Festival @ 4 Hands Brewing Company in St. Louis, MO. Poured from the Gold/Dark Green Colored bottle w/ Oak Aged labeled on the front into my 8oz, 4 Hands Tasting Glass. Had no bottled on date but not too worried about it.
Aroma- Butterscotch, caramel and strong sweetness hits the nose firstly. Has tons of malt as well. A bit of oak or barrel too?
Appearance- Pours a 2 finger, creamy head that has good retention. Has a darkest amber colored body and can hardly see if the clarity is good or not. Leaves thick lacing behind.
Flavor- Very sweet caramel and then has a musky, light burnt flavor. A bit of alcohol comes in also at the finish. Light-Medium Bitterness.
Mouthfeel- Light-Medium Bodied, Medium-High Carbonation, Oak Overload, and a high amount of muskiness is left on the palate. Not appreciated.
Overall Impression- I'll tell you what. This one started off VERY nice and then the mouthfeel came around and made my high hopes go down... Could use work on the mouthfeel and finish but other than that, had nice caramel flavors and very drinkable. Wonder what the ABV's are on this one? Will be trying Morgan Street's Doppelbock soon.
