a pleasant and easy drinking ipa that works well with the hot and humid weather here on the big island. i like the light body, not too malty, and the hop bitterness is held back a bit, so this is balanced and flavorful but also supremely drinkable as they go, more modern than many others we had on the island, dry hoppy and bright, without being overdosed, clean on the ferment too, quite professional overall and one of my favorite beers from our visit to their spot. a shade richer than golden but really light looking with great clarity and shine and an average white head from the tap with some web lacing as it drinks. the nose is fresh and hop driven with subtle pineapple and generic citrus to it, unremarkable in terms of hop complexion really, it hits a little fruity and a little herbal, but remains familiar and easy the whole way, earthy cereal character from the malt in support, nothing at all from the yeast. the flavor is right there with the nose, up front the hops tease verbena and pineapple, later its more grapefruit and grass, fresh as can be, with lightly toasted grain character but dry the whole way. refreshing and bubbly, lighter than most in terms of body, and something that seems to make sense for hawaii, vacation, summer, whatever, really well done, really approachable.
