Copenhagen 28/3 2026. 44 cl can from Den Gamle Købmand, Skt. Annæ Plads, Kbh. K. Dark blue can in Alder's usual design with their little stylized hop logo in a lighter shade of blue. They call it a "Zwickel Pils" on the can.
Pours unclear ale yellow with a mid-sized white head. Stable. Settles as a 1 cm thick layer of fluffy foam obscuring the surface of the beer. Substantial lacing.
Aroma is medium intense with a sweet malty odor mingling with a whiff of sour grains. Sweet pale malts, bread and cereal. Grass and grains. Uncomplicated.
Medium strong carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, soft yet lightly tingling texture.
Flavor is medium intense with a medium strong sweetness followed by a moderately strong bitterness. Aftertaste is lightly bitter with a sweet undertone. Lingers for a bit. Finish is a tad watery.
More Zwickel than Pils.

It's a Zwickel Pils, a German-style bottom-fermented beer, particularly from the Franconia region.
In this case it's specially produced with very soft water, the use of only typical Pils malt of Bavarian origin and the noble, always Bavarian, Rottenburger hops cultivated by the Locher company, hop producers from Tettnang, (GER), overlooking the near Lake Constance and the Alps behind it, where this hop cultivation of approximately 20 hectares is located.
As soon as the can is opened, on the nose there are not excessive sickly notes, reminiscent of the crust of hard bread, with sweeter, slightly honeyed reflections.
Poured with the scent of bread crust and hours typical of breadsticks, more herbaceous notes are added.
Color of a beautiful light golden, very clean, almost completely transparent and foam present in the right quantity, with a density of cappuccino foam.
In the mouth, a beer with a slim body, very tasty but also low in carbonation.
The initial taste is that of bread, with a succession of notes of honey and light spacing (a little pepper).
The finish, however, is dry, not bitter, characterized by more herbaceous notes (almost chicory), with few particular nuances, but which gives a worthy closure to the beer, leaving light soft malty notes on the palate.
There is a traditional, old-fashioned and no-frills taste, but it lacks a bit of liveliness.
It drinks very easily, as they say "it goes down straight", but in my opinion a slightly more lively carbonation would have further enhanced it (I found it slightly low in terms of carbonation).
