Traded for this last week with a friend who goes up to Tin Barn quite often. I've come to like them more and more recently as I've had plenty of their recent releases but this one was a bit too heavy with the oat and wheat for me to rate any higher, as the body and balance were quite evident from the beginning.
The pour to this was decent as the muted goldenrod appearance of this beer was typical for this style, as the head that topped it off was quite thick and slow to settle. Quite a bit of lacing was left behind as it was very extensive along the bottom half of my pint glass, with a hint of a ring above all of the deep suds. Tons of flaked oats and white wheat in the nose, along with white grape, tangy citrus, and exotic fruit as the taste followed suit. That was plenty dank, nuanced, and reminiscent of white wine but with a full body and mouthfeel as the undertone to this was very rustic. No, this wasn't aged in wood barrels but it almost had that feel to it as the aftertaste was dry and sticky on my lips due to the wheat and oats.
The carbonation was moderate and the booze more potent than 7.4% would have led me to believe, which only added to the intrigue that I felt throughout my time with this. Dated 10/28 with "HAYLIE & JAKE" written above it, this wasn't quite like their other offerings as it had as much Belgian IPA as New England IPA behind it. Jack fruit, grain, and fermented apple were what stuck with me after this went down and as a diversion, this fit the bill. Fun to have once but not on par with their more notable beers...
