Pours almost clear, straw (SRM 2). There is absolutely no head whatsoever, and, therefore, no lace to cling to a Simpli Pilsner glass. Occasionally, the rare bubble drifts upwards from within.
This smells like an old school Pilsner. One might say it is a pre-prohibition Pilsner, if only I knew for sure what that beer was like. The name certainly suggests that this was the brewer's intent. Light, sweet grains counter a touch of floral aroma in this very clean beer.
The flavor is crisp overall, with a snap of bitterness up front, balanced immediately by sweetness. Mineral flavors mix nicely with cereal grains. The finish is long and mild. The flavor and aroma pair well.
This beer has a medium body and soft, smooth texture with light, oily notes. Carbonation is very modest, as it tickles the tongue. And, fortunately, the mineral notes are pleasant.
This is a well-done old school Lager. I recommend it after completing yardwork. Anyone looking for a transition from BMC will do well to enter the craft beer world via this beer. It is a clear step without any aggressiveness. For me, it makes for a nice Summer grilling beer, or perhaps as a thirst quencher when playing softball.
