This is a very dark brown Porter, and almost black (SRM 35-38). Once in the glass, there are no highlights, and a thin ring of fine, khaki bubbles deposits patchy lace.
Sweet roasted chocolate and malt prominently emanate from a PBGC Dimpled Mug (Sparkles). Vanilla quickly follows along with interesting and unexpected barbeque sauce with pulled pork. That's a new aroma profile from my experience. Faint smoke is also tangible.
Roasted malt flavors are pleasant and well done. Bitterness is in line with the sweetness and together they set up malt forwardness. Both the pulled pork and faint smoke come through without barbeque sauce. Baker's chocolate and brownie crust lead to a finish with moderate length and intensity.
There is no astringency, with fine, modest carbonation. Alcohol is as advertised. A silky texture and medium body work well together.
This is an enjoyable Standard Porter to help one wind down after a long day.
