The opalescent/hazy gold (SRM 5-6) beer puts up a big 2” head. That creamy, off-white head subsides fairy quickly, leaving rings of lace on a Pretentious Glass Co. American Lager glass. Fine columns of carbonation hurriedly make their way upwards to maintain a thin sheet over the beer.
For a New England IPA, the aroma is a bit mild. It has citrus and pine, as well as faint tropical fruit, but there is no pizazz. These aromas are mild and blended, leaving one hard pressed to differentiate between them.
The flavors are similar to the aroma, in that they are muted with no clear differentiation. It is more earthy than fruity. Pine straw and dusty hay come to mind. Bitterness and sweetness are very mild, with a light astringency beating them both. The long, mild finish seems to favor bitterness.
The body is thin to medium, while the texture is slick and rough simultaneously. Alcohol is below expectations and carbonation is light.
Given how mild this beer is, in every respect, it is surprising to see that is is 6.2% abv. Aside from the alcohol level, I imagine this could easily be a sessionable beer.
