Sambuca vanished from the bluffs a long time ago, on a dreary night, after falling into a pit of cherry wood smoked lager. Legend has it, every full moon Sambuca can be spotted at the bluffs cemetery searching for their lost soul.

2023: Nice sweet smoke in the aroma, smooth and well integrated. Any edges from the last batch were rounded down, it’s nicely mellow and an easy drinker.
2021: Canned 1/10.
Dark amber tone, fairly bright clarity, a finger of compact head with a collar of drippy lacing. Lasting surface skim.
Aromas of wood, malt and graphite, very little smoke if any.
Taste is malty and lightly phenolic, with a mild astringency and woodiness, biscuit and mild bitterness in the aftertaste. Drinks much more like a Vienna Lager than Rauchbier. Lighter bodied with ample carbonation. Easy drinking, pairs well with food.
Disclaimer: I’m a freak for lagers and cherrywood. Last year I went through a whole box of cherry logs I split myself to cook with. I’m well acquainted with the range of subtleties and intensities that woodsmoke can produce. This beer isn't intense at all, unlike some of Ørkenoy’s other smoked beers. Sugar Creek says their Såinnhus malt is also smoked with birchwood, so that may account for the astringency.

Pours a crystal clear amber color. Thin two finger white head dissipates leaving no residual head, but does leave some sticky off white lacing.
Aroma has a furnace blast of smoked malts, campfire smoke, and lighter notes of smoked meats. Like some of the other smoked beers from Ørkenoy the aroma is absolutely dominated to the detriment of anything else.
Taste follows the nose with tons of smoke, campfire smoke, smoked ham and a touch of sweetness. The smoke is so strong its actually kind of unpleasant, although some people may like it. It does overshadow anything else in the palate. However there are some light notes of grains, honey ham, and oak.
Feel is light, pretty crisp, dry finish. Mild carbonation.
Overall its unbalanced with the smoke dominating everything else. That being said, if it was a bit more balanced, I think I would enjoy this a bit more.
