The third installment of our new, unique series of barrel blends. This time we mixed our long-boiled Barley Wine from Woodford Double Oaked bourbon barrels with Imperial Stout from Monsters aged in Jack Daniel's barrels for 14 months. We infused the whole thing with cocoa nibs and figs.

Essentially blind-tasted vs the liquor barrel used...
L- Pours like engine oil, thick and silent. No light penetrates through my glass, even held touching a halogen bulb. 1cm deep tan fine-bubble deeep tan head. Impressive.
S- Whisky is clear but not OTT. A touch of smoke alongside.
T- Boom! Deep and quite rich yet the richness is countered by the whisky 'bite'. That said the whisky aspect is also rather shrouding the taste of the original brewed beer. ... I do get a coffee note though...
F- It even feels thick. In the finish it has some sense of sticky/sweetness. CO2 has now cleared on the surface and understandably is at a low-level in the glass.
O- I'm 5-10mins in and as it warms a bit the whisky aspect is really opening up. You need to like whisky to enjoy this, or at least happily tolerate it. Interesting brew, pretty full-on, ideal to share esp. at the price! Having enjoyed one it's not a brew I'd choose again, the price is OTT for me... my benchmark being the Euro12 I paid for a 330ml of Westvleteren 12, ie this cost about twice as much.
330ml bottle BB: 30/12/2028 £19.29. Bacchanalia, Mill Road, Cambridge.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
