Detective Stout #2

Tons of cinnamon on the nose, along with hints of anise, and perhaps nutmeg and allspice. It doesn’t smell entirely pumpkin spice, however, given the stout notes firmly in the background. Very strong clove after revisiting the nose.

The palate is dominated by the dry spices, along with an almost peppermint brightness. It’s not unpleasant, but it’s singularly driven by the spices, like eating the Christmas wreath instead of the Christmas cookie. Hints of coffee and cacao beneath, but this is less a dessert stout than it is a spice stout. Very intriguing, but I suspect I shall not revisit it.
