Pours a chestnut brown into the glass with a small head that stays longer than many others. Decent, malty flavor as expected of a Franken Bock. Overall, a good bock.

Bottle: Poured a dark clear brown color bock with a tiny bubbly head with zero retention and no lacing. Aroma of unrefined grain with light burn toffee notes is not very enticing. Taste is also dominated by burn toffee with some acrid unrefined grainy notes. Body is average with low carbonation. There was really nothing in this beer that would make me want to try this again.

Deep, apparently opaque chestnut body showing good clarity when held to the light, topped by mid-sized beige head with good retention that gradually sets to a stable cloth.
The nose is malty sweet with melanoidin-toasty qualities, nutty notes and some alcohol underneath. I pick up even some faint fruitiness from specialty malts.
Taste exhibits nice balance between malt-sweetness and supportive hop-bitterness; the malt gives sufficient impression of attenuation so the beer never gets cloying and the bitterness helps to lend dry, somewhat nutty finish with slightly astringent bitter-woodsy aftertaste.
Soft carbonation and medium body with somewhat powdery mouthfeel. (500 ml, 06-21-2012, into tulip.)
Overall, an average Dunkler Bock with good balance between malt-flavor and hop-bitterness.
