5-6oz pour served in a 8-10oz stemless wineglass. Poured the expected solid black color of the style with an inch-and-a-half of tan head that had good retention and light lacing.
From there, this beer is atypical for the style. The wort was made at Otherlands, and then transported to Garden Path Fermentation, where their wild Skagit yeast used to ferment, then the beer was aged in whiskey barrels. The wild tartness and funk of the yeast was dominant , both in the nose and on the tongue. The base beer was hidden, and I didn't get any barrel aspects at all.
The body was definitely on the this side of medium for the style, smooth and had a more than semi-dry finish. Drinkability was a bit of a chore, this is certainly a sipper. Overall, I didn't think this beer came together particularly well. It's interesting, for sure, and worth a shot if you see it.
