A Belgian Golden Ale brewed to capture what we love most about sparkling wines. To do this we followed the traditional méthode champenoise process used to produce French Champagne. This super hands on, borderline crazy process, is about as labor intensive and traditional as anything we can imagine. Naturally it was right up Otherlands' alley.
After an extended fermentation in the tank, Enlightenment Brut was dosed with sugar and fresh champagne yeast, bottled, capped, and allowed to re-ferment for two months. The bottles were then stored at an angle with the necks pointing down and "riddled," or turned by hand 90° every day to coax the yeast sediment towards the cap.

Here's a rare item, a Bière Brut or "Bière de Champagne." Not quite clear amber brew with adequate foam in the Belle-Vue Gueuze glass. Big aroma of papaya and peach. Spritzy on the tongue with a substantial mouthfeel and malty body. Rather sweet to go nicely with all the alcohol. Fruity flavors with peach and apricot nectar with a dose of vodka. Otherlands has done a wonderful job with an unusual style that requires a lot of literal "hand-on" treatment. I'm happy to say the result is well worth the splurge. Plus it will have the inlaws dozing in no time. Purchased at Garden Path brewery and bottle shop for 23 bucks. Bottle number 141.
