Collaboration with Eighty-Eight Brewing

This beer fuses Eighty-Eight's hoppy beer mastery and Tailgunner's passion for traditional brewing techniques, in order to create what we think might be the world's first double decocted double dry-hopped triple IPA. Boasting a double decoction mash and the highest hopping rate ever attempted at Tailgunner, we kept the grain bill simple and anchored this beer with a classic hop blend of Columbus, Centennial, and Simcoe added at many points during the brewing process. Enjoy in moderation!

Pours a hazy bright apricot colour with two fingers of creamy white head.
Aroma is a juicy hop explosion - over ripe orange, pineapple, mango, and good hit of peach. As warmed cantaloupe and a bit of earthy weedy dankness; piney hops, and some hints of alcohol. Near magical on the nose.
Tastes of sweet, slightly boozy, juice - ripe citrus, tropical fruit (mango, pineapple), and peach. Some piney resin, and a bit of that earthy dankness - moderately restrained bitterness balanced by the bready malt.
Medium full mouthfeel with moderate carbonation - boozy heat, though not over the top, and a lingering bittersweetness.

Poured from a howler purchased at Collective and sampled next to a can.

A collaboration brew brewed with '88 (Eighty-Eight) brewing.

This one is a brew never done in the craft beer industry so it is a rare gem to get this on tap.

Appearance - Pours a hazy peach gold with four fingers of frothy white head that leaves some puffy lace on the glass.

Smell - citrus, piney, floral, and tropical hops, honey aromas, honeydew melon, citrus and grapefruit peel, pine resin, peach, mango, other tropcial fruits I can't quite put my finger on, bready malts, and earthy yeast.

Taste - bold citrus, piney, and tropical hops upfront. The honey characteristics, honeydew melon, citrus and grapefruit peel, pine resin, peach, mango, and other tropical fruits come through next. The bready malts and earthy yeast round out the brew.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes sticky with the pine resin, citrus and tropical fruits lingering.

Overall - A well made and executed brew from Tailgunner and Eighty Eight. It's like they were aiming at taking all the key elements of every kind of IPA and making it a true stand out. The ABV is well hidden in this one making it a dangerous sipper. A must try especially on if you're able to try it on tap. Kudos to the folks at Collective for getting a keg of this rarity!
