Poured from tap into pint glass in February 2022. I also bought a growler to take home and drink.
Appearance: Very dark black with a two finger high tan/brown head. Head thins out to a thin covering, and leaves only a little lacing on the glass, as is typical of imperial stouts. Not surprisingly, very similar to their Absent Void.
Smell: Similar to their Absent Void, but with some bourbon aroma. Strong aromas of chocolate, roasted coffee, and bourbon. There is some additional sweetness like malts. Not much hop aroma.
Taste: This is stronger and sweeter than their Absent Void. There is a strong coffee flavors along with chocolate. Also, some smoky roasted malt flavors, and a little caramel flavor. There is some bitterness from hops. There is a strong alcohol presence that matches 11.0% published on their website. Also, a strong oak and whiskey aftertaste, that is really enjoyable.
Mouth-feel: Thick, but with an extremely smooth and creamy body. A little smoother than their Absent Void, but stronger.
This is a very good Imperial Stout, and it has a variety of flavors that adds a nice complexity to the beer. It is very smooth and enjoyable to drink. I like this better than their Absent Void (which is also good), and would definitely buy this again.
